Foot ExercisesYamuna Zake, known for her foot yoga and body rolling techniques has partnered with Vogue to give readers arch exercises to spare their feet when wearing high heels. Zake believes that the stronger you make your foot; the longer heel wearers can withstand their shoes and avoid foot problems. After a night of wearing heels, the 60 year-old suggests using a tennis ball to roll your arches for five minutes to stretch and strengthen the foot. The rolling method may also reduce any swelling in the ankles. Other exercises include balancing the body’s weight on the outside edge of the foot, base of the toes, the heel and ball of the foot with shift the pressure amongst the muscles and tendons of the lower extremities. Zake also states that while wearing heels, stand with the feet parallel and equally distribute your weight to the outside edge of the feet. She emphasizes the importance of posture as well as putting the pressure on the outside edges of the feet rather than on the balls of the feet.

Exercise for Your Feet

If you spend most of your time on your feet, or don’t either way your feet should deserve attention. There are many people who exercise regularly and still don’t spend enough time to care for their feet. Your foot does get exposure that requires maintenance since your health has a lot to do with footing.

Exercises

Toe rise – this exercise involves standing on the tip-toes for a count of 15 seconds, then resting your feet on ground. This exercise should be repeated three times a day to strengthen the feet.

Toe Pick-ups – the toes are exercises that are done by picking up small items using your toes. This helps strengthen the muscles on the upper part of the feet. Three sets along with 15 seconds being held should be completed. Small items like marbles or stationary will work.

Ankle Pump – can be performed upwards or downwards. The workout can be completed both ways at the same time. This involves flexing the foot either towards the shin or to the ground. This makes the foot work very well, working large parts of the muscles.

Broken ToeQueens Park Rangers Football Club based in White City, London is considering allowing midfielder Niko Kranjcar to play the next couple of games despite having a broken toe. Kranjcar has become a very important player to the team recently and all, including himself and his coaches, would like him play QPR’s next game against Liverpool.

If Kranjcar chooses to play, he risks hurting the injury even more and potentially keeping himself from playing for even longer than if he just let the current injury heal. “They were talking about Niko being out for five or six weeks, but he wants to get it injected and play.” states QPR manager, Harry Redknapp.

What to Know About a Broken Toe

Although most people try to avoid foot trauma such as banging, stubbing, or dropping heavy objects on their feet, the unfortunate fact is that it is a common occurrence. Given the fact that toes are positioned in front of the feet, they typically sustain the brunt of such trauma. When trauma occurs to a toe, the result can be a painful break (fracture). Another type of trauma that can break a toe is repeated activity that places stress on the toe for prolonged periods of time.

Symptoms of a Broken Toe

  • throbbing pain

  • swelling

  • bruising on the skin and toenail

  • the inability to move the toe with ease.

  • toe appears crooked or disfigured

  •  tingling or numbness in the toe

  • injured person experiences fever or chills throughout their body, and when there is an open, bleeding wound present on the toe.


Generally, a minor toe break will heal without long-term complications, but it is important to discontinue activities that put pressure on the toe. It is best to stay off of the injured toe with the affected foot elevated on pillows. Swelling can be alleviated by placing an ice pack on the broken toe for 15 minutes every two hours during the first two days after the fracture.

footThaddeus Delaney, kindergartener at Denver Public Schools was involved in an accident with a township school bus. The five-year-old broke three bones in his foot when a third grader at the school pushed him under a school bus as it was approaching. The victim states that he was trying to give his sister a hug when the incident occurred. After the bus ran over his legs, Delaney was taken to the hospital by ambulance. “He’s been mean to me all my life,” Thaddeus said of the bully while sitting in a wheelchair with an orange cast on his leg. “There’s gotta be a point where it’s gotta stop, it’s got to,” his mother added.

study 2 Data compiled from the soda-drinking habits of over 180,000 women indicates that U.S. women who drink one or more cups of sweetened beverages a day are about 63% more likely to get seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) than those who drink less than that amount. Women over the age of 55 who drink soda are 164% more likely to get the disease. The study, referred to as the Nurses’ Health Study, didn’t find any connection between diet soda and RA or between sweetened soda and seronegative RA. While filming, Millennium Falcon’s door fell on his lower extremity, thus sending him to the hospital and forcing the producers to delay shooting for two weeks.

sprainedIndiana Pacers’ best remaining player, David West, was escorted off the court after a sprained ankle occurred near the basket during a preseason game against the Dallas Mavericks. It appeared as though the forward’s foot rolled during an attempted layup to the point that his foot came out of his shoe, keeping him on the ground until his benched teammates came out to aid him.
